Polykaryogrammic analysis of ship, Acipenser nudiventris Lovetsky (Acipenseridae, Chondrostei)

Arefjev VA.

The diploid chromosome number of sheep sturgeon, A. nudiventris, is 118 plus or minus 3. The number of chromosomal arms is NF = 172 plus or minus 4. The mean values of relative length and arm ratio were obtained for the 24 largest two-arm chromosomes in the karyotype using the polykaryographic technique (first applied to fish) which permits identification of the large two-arm chromosomes. The karyotype of sheep sturgeon could not be divided into groups of four similar chromosome, however, this also does not reject the proposed polyploid origin of all the 120-chromosomal karyotypes of sturgeon.
