Karyotype study on stellate and great sturgeon by leukocyte culture

The karyotypes of two Acipenseriformes, Stellate sturgeon (Acipenser stellatus) and Great sturgeon (Huso huso) from the southern basin of the Caspian Sea were described. The chromosomes of 50 mitotic metaphases for both Great and Stellate sturgeon were counted. The average chromosome number of was 2n=117. The average chromosomes number of Acipenser stellatus was 2n=114. It was also observed that in both species microchromosomes make up about one third of the whole set of chromosomes.
