A note on the karyotype of the sterlet Acipenser ruthenus Linnaeus, 1758 (Pisces, Acipenseridae) from the romanian stretch of Danube River.

Suciu R. Ene C.

Five juveniles of A. ruthenus of undetermined sex captured from Danube river were investigated. A lymphocytes culture was installed for each specimen. The diploid chromosome number was found to be 2n=118±2. Due to the microchromosomes which are present in a high number in all acipenseriform species it is difficult to determine exactly the chromosome number. The first 29 pairs are metacentric macrochromosomes, the first four pairs being larger than the other macrochromosmes; pairs 30 and 31 are large acrocentrics and the last 29 pairs are microchromosomes.
