The Laboratory of Bioencapsulation & Microfluidics is part of the Department of Life Sciences and Biotechnology of the University of Ferrara.

It focuses on the development of delivery systems for the controlled release of drugs and biological response modifiers, nutraceutic products and cosmetics. The group can carry out third part activities, including the design and production of innovative formulations based on liposomes, microspheres, microcapsules, lipospheres emulsions and microemulsions. We design and produce advanced cosmetic formulations based on liposomes, liquid crystals, microparticles in association with hydrophilic polymers and polymeric surfactants.

Moreover the Lab has forstered an intense research activity on microfluidics. This novel branch of science, studies the engineering of fluid flow in nano-microscale and represents the enabling underlying concept for lab-on-a-chip technology. Microfluidics offers precise high throughput applications to pharmaceutics including bioassays, drug screening and diagnostics, as well as the precise production of many advanced drug delivery formulations such as emulsions and multiple emulsions, nano-microparticles and colloidal drug delivery systems.
